TYPES OF VITAMINS

Vitamins are essential organic compounds that the human body requires in small amounts to maintain normal physiological functions. There are several different types of vitamins, and they can be categorized into two main groups: water-soluble vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins.

1. **Water-Soluble Vitamins**:

   - **Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)**: Important for the immune system, skin health, and wound healing.

   - **Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)**: Essential for energy metabolism and nerve function.

   - **Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)**: Involved in energy production and antioxidant function.

   - **Vitamin B3 (Niacin)**: Important for skin health, digestion, and nerve function.

   - **Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)**: Involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and energy production.

   - **Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)**: Necessary for brain development and function.

   - **Vitamin B7 (Biotin)**: Important for skin, hair, and nail health.

   - **Vitamin B9 (Folate or Folic Acid)**: Vital for cell division and the prevention of birth defects.

   - **Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)**: Essential for red blood cell formation and neurological function.

2. **Fat-Soluble Vitamins**:

   - **Vitamin A (Retinol)**: Important for vision, immune system, and skin health.

   - **Vitamin D (Calciferol)**: Necessary for calcium absorption and bone health.

   - **Vitamin E (Tocopherol)**: Acts as an antioxidant and supports skin health.

   - **Vitamin K (Phylloquinone)**: Essential for blood clotting and bone metabolism.

In addition to these essential vitamins, there are other compounds like vitamin K2, which plays a role in calcium metabolism and can be synthesized in the body, and vitamin D2 and D3, which are two forms of vitamin D. It's important to maintain a balanced diet to ensure you get an adequate intake of all these vitamins, as they are critical for overall health and well-being.
